‘Winter is Coming’. Well, at Silverburn - Glasgow’s favourite out-of-town Shopping Centre it is, with further expansion of its much-loved Winter Garden dining area expected to complete in time for the centre’s new 14 screen Cineworld complex opening this summer.
With the recent addition of new names such as America’s favourite Five Guys, Italian superchef chain Carluccio’s and an all-you-can eat bonanza buffet at Cosmos you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere else in Glasgow where you can eat your way around the world under one roof.
Battle of the Burgers
Battle for the best-burger USA style at Five Guys where you can build your own with unlimited free toppings (there are over 250,000 ways you can order a Five Guys burger) - or choose from over forty different burgers freshly made at the Handmade Burger Co - original, chicken or topped with peanut butter and bacon. Handmade’s newest Peanut Butter and Bacon burger is already one of the restaurant’s most popular burgers and is served with a sweet and salty chilli jam, inspired by the classic American peanut butter and jelly sandwich. From June you can also keep it fast and purse-friendly at the centre’s brand new state-of-the-art McDonald’s. Silverburn’s most-requested new restaurant recruit will offer digital menu boards and table-top tablet computers as well as innovative self-order kiosks where customers can browse through the menu and order at their leisure.
Pick a Pizza
Grab a pizza the action with authentic Italian bases and secret-ingredient tomato sauces just like mamma made at Silverburn - and with Carluccio’s, Pizza Hut, Prezzo, Zizzi’s and PizzaExpress you’re surely spoiled for choice. Check out Zizzi’s new revolving stone deck pizza ovens and their impressive interior inspired by the Burrell Collection of Art in nearby Pollok Country Park. Or pop into the new PizzaExpress restaurant where an estimated 490 kilos of dough alone is thrown, shaped and baked each month as the team prepares around 5,500 pizzas and nearly 1,000 portions of dough balls - that’s enough garlic to keep Buffy in vampire-slaying mode for years.
Spicy Options
Prefer it hot and spicy? Silverburn’s brand new Chimichanga is a must for all you chilli-fiends with its extensive Tex-mex menu that includes favourites such as burritos, tostadas, enchiladas, quesadillas and fajitas. I recommend their new foot-long hot dog loaded with the chain’s legendary Beaver Coney Island mustard, extra chilli con carne and jalapeños - just don’t forget to ask for an extra glass of iced water on the side. Or if you’re feeling brave, try taking it up a notch at Nando’s and request the restaurant's infamous Extra Extra Hot Sauce made with African Bird’s Eye Chilli and a blend of ingredients not for the faint-hearted. A warning though - each piece of chicken, even the plain, is marinated in a spicy Portuguese peri-peri sauce for 24 hours before it’s grilled, this really is chicken with a kick-en so add a little grilled halloumi and salad to soak up the heat if you’re not feeling so brave.
Turn Japanese at Wagamamas or Yo Sushi, or get it extra hot, foamy and with an oversized custard cream on the side at Costa, Pret A Manger or Patisserie Valerie. Or you could take on the world at Cosmo buffet where everything from Dim Sum to a traditional Sunday Roast is on offer. Watch out for Silverburn’s newest foodie-recruits this June as Subway takes up its first unit in the centre.
Silverburn offers a choice of stylish shops, restaurants and cafes and is easily accessed via J2 off the M77, while the X8 is an express bus that it is available from Buchanan Street Bus Station in Glasgow city centre. For more details visit www.shopsilverburn.com
