Lovely day break Had a lovely spa trip with my sister and aunty - a lovely Christmas present. The back massage and facial were amazing and we had a very relaxing time. It does need a bit of TLC as there are signs of wear and tear and also it was cold, especially in the treatment rooms. A special shout out to Alice in the cafe who was a super star and looked after us amazingly.

EXTREMELY DATED. Worse hotel ever! Do not believe the nice photos on the website, the rooms are very dated, dirty, stains and u shape mattresses. Pool areas are dirty damp and very dated. Everything about this hotel is unfortunately nothing like what the website shows.

We were eagerly looking forward to our spa break but came away very disappointed with what we received. Location was exactly as expected. On arrival at Craxton Wood reception appeared to be quite busy although we were told it was quiet. The hotel itself is now very dated and looks it. The paintwork throughout is marked, scratched and stained however the actual cleanliness was very good. The bed was excellent and we had a great nights sleep. There was nothing to complain about as far as noise was concerned especially as it was a mid week break during the school holidays. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and polite however there wasn’t enough of them. In my opinion very understaffed in all areas. You had to go outside in the freezing cold to access the spa as there was no internal connecting doors or way in from inside of the hotel. Addition prices were high for what you got, £12 for a dessert and £19.50 for 2 liqueur coffees. I thought that the place was overpriced for what you got. The spa experience itself was ok but no slippers as they had ran out of stock. We waited for 25 mins to be served at the bar by which time we went to reception and asked for some service. The bar area was comfortable but the bar itself was covered in dirty glasses and jugs from the previous night as were the tables in the conservatory area. Our evening meal was at 6.30pm, the menu was disappointing with not much variety. I didn’t want pizza or burger and was told that the rib eye steak was not available as it was all gone!! Breakfast was meant to be hot but was actually cold with limited choice at 9.00am. Again the restaurant didn’t have enough staff to cope with demand.

Very poor Valentines experience. Opted for the Valentines menus tonight and would’ve preferred McDonalds from the Golden Arches. The soup was barely edible and the braised beef looked like it had been tipped out of a can of dog food and the taste and texture left a lot to be desired. We were expecting fondant potatoes as per the menu and it turned up with boiled potatoes then th waiter reached in and touched my food with his bare hands to remove a foreign objiect which was just bizarre. Very poor to be honest. The room is bang average and not worth what we paid. We received confirmation of an early check and arrived in good time for that to be told early check I wasn’t possible. The evening will be unforgettable for the wrong reasons unfortunately. The live singer was decent though. Well done to her. Beyond the spa facilities, I don’t see any reason to want to return. Have to say the massage was decent too. For the sake of an extra few miles in the car, I would choose their Portal Hotel and golf resort, if I was to ever return to one of their hotels.
