About The National Mining Museum scotland
Based at one of the finest surviving examples of a Victorian colliery in Europe, The National Mining Museum showcases a history of the mining industry in Scotland. Located at the Lady Victoria Colliery, just nine miles out of Edinburgh it can be easily reached by car, train or coach. Visitors can marvel at the size of the place and the traditional machinery still in its old places. Guided tours are available, presenting the lives and struggles of miners working at Lady Victoria in the past and their families. Geology and anthropology buffs can also enjoy an experience exploring the creation of coal and the journey humans took to begin successfully excavating it.
