About Bowring Golf Club (Mack Golf)
Long before Bowring Park, the area was the Roby Hall Estate, redesigned by John Williamson in 1761. The Walled Garden was originally a Kitchen Garden, and The Dell was a drainage pond.
The 'Sir William Bowring Challenge Cup' saw E.L. Coleman as the first golf champion. The M62 reduced the course to 9 holes in the 1970s, but it was restored to 18 in the 1980s. The Bowring Park Ladies Golf Club formed after St Michael's Golf Club closed.
