Groupon Asks

Groupon finds out more about the high-flying residents of Gauntlet Birds of Prey Eagle and Vulture Park, and how they earn their fearful title.

How many birds live at the park?
Housing over 120 birds, the park boasts over 45 species from 7 different families. The more well-known of these include Hawks, Eagles, Falcons, owls and free-flying kites. Some of the more unusual varieties include caracaras, seriemas and marabou storks with an impressive three-metre wingspan.

What can guests expect to see?
The park allows customers to get up close and personal with the birds, flying them and learning about environmental conservation and the positive effects it has on birds. General admission for the day includes a flying display and vulture feeding.

What qualifies a bird to be called a 'bird of prey'?
Also known as 'raptors', birds of prey are meat-eaters with adaptations such as a sharp and hooked beak, powerful feet with hooked talons, and extremely keen eyesight. These impressive attributes make it possible for them to capture their prey effectively, helping them to continue to survive and breed.

How did the park get started?
Falconer Graham Bessant opened the centre at its original location in Cheshire back in 1996, before moving it to its present address in Knutsford in 2004.
