The Railway
Epping Ongar Railway celebrates Essex's longstanding rail heritage. The route runs for five miles between the two towns, taking in the Essex Way footpath which leads past such unique attractions as the oldest wooden church in the world. Other highlights include the classic architecture of Ongar’s Grade II listed 1865 station and town centre, North Weald WWI airfield museum and Epping Forest, famed for being the home of Dick Turpin. Families of up to five can board a restored steam or diesel train, alighting and continuing their journey as they wish. Visitors can also make the most of various vintage bus routes, which conveniently link the railway with Epping tube station and town centre. Stations along the route play host to an array of transport memorabilia, a cafe serving picnic areas and a well stocked gift shop.
