Longleat safari and Adventure Park

The Festival of Light makes an appearance at Longleat Safari and Adventure Park for the first time this Christmas, bringing with it an array of illuminated tableaux to wander through. Over 7,000 individual lanterns, constructed with 15 kilometres of silk and 40 kilometres of LED lights, along with vinyl, satin and fixed frames, are due to grace the site. The site will be lit up by the likes of a 70 metre long dragon, mythical qilin creatures, a 20 metre tall Chinese temple and a bamboo forest, complete with life-size representations of pandas, giant elephants and other animals. Lanterns will also represent various Chinese dynasties, as well as some of the park’s famed animal residents, with around 20 different scenes created by a team of 100 craftsmen hailing from Zigong in China’s Sichuan province. 

The event also showcases the Chinese art of face changing, with a performer using drama and trickery to switch masks at a dizzying pace. The Elizabethan stately home will also be decorated, with other traditional seasonal treats including a winter safari, appearances by fairytale characters and even a 50ft singing Christmas tree. The Longleat shops will be offering all sorts of gifts for purchase, as will market-style traditional craftsmen, while visitors will also be able to separately book a ride on the Santa Express or for a go at skating on the real ice rink. Entry is available for children (usually £20 per person) or adults (£24.95 per person), with each visitor also receiving a £5 voucher to put towards food and drink purchases.
