The grand walls of Ripley Castle still stand strong after 700 years, as they are central to an estate that flourishes with lush gardens and decades of enthralling history. Home to the Ingilby family since the 14th century, this estate has seen eventful and not always friendly visits from the likes of King James I and Oliver Cromwell. Visitors can enjoy entry to the castle’s walled gardens, where a wealth of flowers, herbs and rare vegetables paint the landscape. Sightseers can also stroll through the deer park, keeping an eye out for local wildlife. To keep cockles warm whilst exploring the grounds, a drink of hot chocolate, tea or coffee is included.
