An ice hockey match consists of three periods, each lasting 20 minutes of actual play time. There are two intermissions between these periods, each lasting around 15 minutes. Here's a breakdown of the game structure:
- First Period: 20 minutes of play.
- Intermission: 15-minute break.
- Second Period: 20 minutes of play.
- Intermission: 15-minute break, where you can join in with a game of Chuck a Puck (£1 per puck).
- Third Period: 20 minutes of play.
- Overtime is played if the game is tied at the end of the third period.
- Doors open at 4.30 PM on game day, with Face-Off (start of the game) at 5.15 PM
- Refreshments and vending machines are available to purchase from the Leisure Centre cafe.
- Please note the Sapphire Ice & Leisure Arena is cashless!
About Romford Buccaneers Ice Hockey Club
The Romford Buccaneers Ice Hockey Club compete in the National Ice Hockey League 1. The Buccaneers are one of two senior professional Ice Hockey Teams in Romford, playing a vital role in developing talent for the National League side Romford Raiders and Team GB.
The Romford Hockey history goes back as far as 1987, when the first competitive team iced, back in Rom Valley Way. Now situated conveniently in the centre, opposite the Liberty Shopping Centre, making parking or commuting via train or bus easy.
Ice hockey has been growing in popularity over the last few years, with its speed, grit and feisty hits it offers sporting entertainment to all.
