Grand Organ Gala 2017
This summer St Paul’s Cathedral hosts the Grand Organ Gala. Joined by two more organs and a full orchestra, the venue’s famous mobile organ console will be moved under the dome to give audiences a rare close-up view of the skills needed to play it. In front of the trio of organs will sit the City of London Sinfonia, a collection of 30 talented musicians who are regular visitors to St Paul’s. Guests will be able to hear some of the world’s best-known and most-loved classical hits, such as Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor, Albinoni’s Adagio, Handel’s Cuckoo and the Nightingale Concerto and Poulenc’s Organ Concerto, a gothic fantasy. Featuring an organ tutor at the Junior Royal Academy of Music and sub-organist of St Paul’s Cathedral, Peter Holder, this concert will be brought together by conductor Simon Johnson, the organist of St Paul’s.
