How does automatic movement work?
Automatic movement is powered by a coiled spring (mainspring) located inside the movement and wound automatically when worn or wound. When moving, a winding rotor on the movement rotates and winds the mainspring. To start an automatic movement, it needs to be handled, worn, or manually wound. To manually wind, the crown must be rotated clockwise without pulling out; slight resistance will be felt. The mainspring will continually wind and will continue to run while worn. In addition, the watch will continue to run for a period of time after it is removed.
