Japanese cuisine is cooked right before guests’ eyes with the specialist chef cultivating the dishes in Jinja Tree’s open kitchen. The three-course meal begins with soya bean miso soup with spring onion, tofu and seaweed and is swiftly followed by the chef’s starter plate consisting of Japanese potato cake and vegetable spring rolls with sweet chilli, accompanied by a fresh side salad. Diners have a wide choice of main dishes, which all arrive with egg fried rice and vegetables. Choices include duck breast and fillet steak (usually £29.95) in teriyaki and spicy sauces, seabass and king prawn (£25.50) in ginger and battered soy sauces or perhaps fillet steak and chicken breast (£29.50).

The Merchant
Jinja Tree is located in the market town of Bawtry and, following a renovation in 2012, houses a ground floor cocktail and Champagne bar where guests can taste drinks from around the world until the early hours. Chefs provide the entertainment in a live cooking experience in front of diners who will not only witness the culinary art of teppanyaki but will be privy to a bit of juggling and food theatre. The menu provides a range of signature dishes from the Far East, including sushi, sashimi, tempura and maki.
