Recreating the feeling of being a medieval soldier on patrol, families can stroll round Langley Castle during a 40-minute guided tour. They'll wander through the multi-levelled garderobe tower, down spiral staircases and stone arches, through the restored rooftop chapel with its stained glass windows, and across the imposing battlements. Here, guests will get a unique view of the Roman landmark Hadrian's Wall in the distance, as well as the 12-acre Langley estate. The castle has a rich history, and visitors can learn all about the one-time owner the Earl of Derwentwater, who was executed in the 18th century for his part in Jacobite uprisings
