Pairs will sit down to a spread of finger sandwiches, with fillings that include ham and wholegrain mustard on white bread, cucumber, cream cheese and radish on brown bread, honey roast turkey crown with curry mayonnaise on white bread, smoked salmon and dill dill crème fraîche on brown bread and roast beef with horseradish on white bread. Further savoury bites come in the form of baby spinach and parmesan tart and Lincolnshire lattice. On the next tier up, sits honey lavender and rosemarie scones served with seasonal jams and Devonshire clotted cream. The top tier of the tea stand is home to a variation of sweet treats, featuring mixed fruit tart, chocolate and Bergamots opera cake, basil and strawberry panna cotta, tarragon and vanilla cheese cake, white chocolate and coriander parcel, lemon thyme eccles cake and peppermint marshmallow. A selection of teas and coffees from the Canton Tea Company and the restaurants own blends, The Stafford Special and Lady Lyttleton Special Blend, can be chosen from to accompany spreads. To add a sparkling twist to the afternoon delights are the option of a glass of Laurent-Perrier Champagne each (usually £42.50 per person) or an entire bottle *(£55) to share, for those feeling extravagant.

The Merchant

Named after former residents of the Main House of The Stafford hotel, Lord and Lady Lyttelton, The Lyttelton Restaurant features an ivory, purple and grey colour palette with floral fabrics and a custom-designed chandelier. Executive Chef Carlos Martinez and his team offer breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon tea to both hotel guests and the public. Relax by the fire in the Lyttelton lounge, where the Lyttelton family entertained their guests, and enjoy a spot of traditional afternoon tea. Their afternoon teas are accompanied by a solo harpist Thursday to Sunday.
