Magpie and Stump
The Magpie and Stump is an English pub, with an impressive 500 years of history of which to boast. Based in the heart of London, the public house served pints of two penny ale with a view of the public hangings outside Newgate Prison. The pub continued its morbid traditions into the 20th Century, with detectives and reporters gathering there to discuss the latest trail at the Old Bailey over a lunch of chop ‘n’ chips. It even garnered the affectionate nickname ‘Courtroom No 10’. Visitors to the 21st Century Magpie and Stump won’t see any hangings, but will find a disciplined menu of perfected British dishes, complete with a wide selection of lagers, real ales and fine wines.
