The Specifics

• Latin name: Musa Basjoo
• Size on delivery: 25cm-40cm
• Imported from China
• These plants grow super fast: 150cm-200cm per year
• Can be planted in the garden or in pots
• After 3 years these trees will give fruit and get beautiful flowers
• Thick rhizome, which often moves underground
• The leaves are unfortunately prone to strong winds
• The only banana variety which, albeit with protection, survives winters
• Mainly grown in Japan (but originates from China)
• Must be well protected because the aerial parts freeze away during winters and the stem of the plant mulches
• The stem quickly suffers from frost without any protection, therefore it is advisable to protect the stems during periods of frost
• The rhizomes in the ground a much strong and return each spring again
• Pack it with a thick layer of straw
• Do not forget to provide protection by means of rhizomes mulch
• Always have a thick layer of mulch on all rootstocks
