• Unfold and place a training pad on the floor with the plastic side down and the white side up
• Place the pad in an accessible area
• Ensure this is away from the area where the pet would usually eat and sleep
• Ideally, use an area close to the door where the pet would be eventually taken out for walks
• Help the pet to familiarise themselves with the pad by placing them on it several times during the day
• When the puppy successfully goes potty on the pad, immediately reward with verbal praise and a special treat, then replace the used pad with a fresh one
• If the puppy goes elsewhere, gently place them back on the pad as encouragement, always using positive (never negative) reinforcement
