Sitting down to lunch or dinner at The Riverside Inn, patrons can enjoy a starter such as chicken liver and peppercorn parfait (usually £5.95) or devilled whitebait with a horseradish mayonnaise (£5.50). For the main course, diners can tuck into an 8oz flat-iron steak with field mushroom, vine tomatoes and chips (£16.95), prawn and crayfish salad with marie rose sauce (£12.95) or fusilli in a creamy pesto and goats’ cheese sauce with cherry tomatoes, green beans and rocket (£8.95). Guests can stay refreshed with a glass of Prosecco each (£4.95).

The Merchant

The Riverside Inn is situated within a refurbished 17th-century mill in the centre of Chelmsford. The five guest rooms all feature flat screen TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi and classically styled decor. The kitchen prepares roast lamb, fish and chips and other British classics as well as pasta dishes and salads. The interior features contemporary chandeliers and dark wooden beams while the courtyard garden offers outdoor seating.
