About Scottish Dark Sky Observatory

A hilltop site gives unbridled night-time views of space at the Scottish Dark Sky Observatory. Among the natural surrounds of rugged Craigengillan, star-gazers can train their eyes on distant planets using a range of telescopes. The 14" Schmidt Cassegrain telescope lets astronomers peer first-hand into the unknown, while the robotic 20" Corrected Dall Kirkham telescope is housed in a 5-metre domed observatory. An elevated observation deck gives naked-eye views of the sky. In addition to sightseeing visits, the observatory also hosts lecture nights for schools, and sends out a mobile planetarium for private functions.
