Groupon asks Lindsey Russell, the owner of The Alpaca Park about the sanctuary and what's at the heart of it.
G:What's the story behind your sanctuary?
"We wanted to offer a great escape in a tranquil environment dedicated to the care and needs of local wildlife and The Alpaca Park has evolved to include these shy but inquisitive animals, kept for their luxury fleeces. As word spread of the amazing place here, we were contacted by individuals who needed, for various reasons, a home for their alpacas. Last year we rescued 27 alpacas who now have this incredible place to live and to be cared for."
G:What would you say was at the heart of the sanctuary?
"The Alpaca Park is set against stunning Devonshire countryside and has won seven gold awards from Devon Wildlife Trust for its approach to the nature and wildlife that exists there. Visitors have the opportunity to observe these amazing animals whilst enjoying either a two-mile trail taking in the River Claw, wetlands, woodlands and a live badger sett or shorter walks suitable for people just wanting a stroll. The tranquility and ethos of this natural haven shines through as does the expert care we give our animals."
G:Who or what is the 'star' attraction?
"One of the reasons for visitors loving the park is our beautiful tearoom and our speciality cream teas. We make and cook our scones to order so that each cream tea is a fabulous eating experience. Tea comes in bone china cups and is served with good cheer by our knowledgeable staff. We also serve homemade cakes and cheese scones accompanied by homemade chutney. This can all be enjoyed in the tearooms or on the terrace, away from the crowds. "
