Groupon asks Drew Cartwright, Head of The Mill Adventure Base about adventurous activities and challenging yourself.
G: How did you get into outdoor activities?
“With the desire to try something new and a need to get the adrenaline pumping, adventurous activities really enable you to feel alive. They’re great if you want to challenge yourself, learn new skills or simply enjoy a day out with your friends and family.”
G: Which activities do you offer?
“Kayaking and canoeing on-site and river trips, canoe expeditions, raft building, sailing, power boating courses, archery, artificial caving, cave exploration in the Peak District, climbing and abseiling on-site or in the Peak District, group challenge events, mobile climbing wall, technical mountain biking, weaselling, gorge walking and mountain walking.”
G: Where’s the best place you’ve practised your favourite activity? What made it so good?
“Some of the best things we have done recently with groups have been coast to coast journeys in the UK, either the Caledonian Canal in Scotland by canoe or Sunderland to Workington on mountain bike.”
G: What key skills do you need to be good at this activity?
“A desire to try new things, a willingness to challenge yourself and a good sense of humour!”
G: What should people bring with them on the day?
“Bring a drink and snack/lunch, along with suitable clothing for outdoor activities, a complete change of clothes and a towel, just in case.”
