About The Somerset and Dorset Railway Trust
The Somerset and Dorset Railway Trust provides an authentic look into the golden age of rail travel. Originally running from Bath to Bournemouth through the Mendips, the railway was opened in the second half of the 19th century, before closing in 1966. Volunteers aim to keep the memory of the railway alive, publishing regular magazines full of the line's history, and restoring carriages from the Victorian era. Meanwhile, the Washford museum brings visitors close to historic artefacts, posters and even a reconstruction of the Midford Signal Box, complete with interactive levers.
