Meeting at The Old Crown on Deritend High Street. On arrival, you are welcome to have a drink and relax in area set aside exclusively for BrumTours. On arrival, you will be given the tour introduction. At this stage, whilst sampling your first and second local ales you will find out about the history of the Public house and their importance. The Old Crown itself dates back to 1368 and has many stories to tell. From here, you head out on the walking element of the tour. This will last between 45 minutes to an hour and you will see various inns and pubs that go back through the eras. You will be told of famous stories, why the designed the way they were and how they become central to society. We will then lead you back to the Old Crown, where you will handed your third local ale. The finish, your fourth and final ale will be handed to you before David concludes the talk and answer and question that guest may have.
This lovingly-orchestrated tour tells the story of pubs and brewing in Birmingham at the turn of the 20th Century. This fascinating period in history saw the landscape of Birmingham change and evolve both literally and socially alongside the pub, which retained their place at the very heart of the communities that grew out from them.
“BrumPubs” is ideal for a night out with friends or family, corporate nights out with a difference, birthdays, anniversaries and many more.
This tour has been cherry-picked for the role that it plays in telling the story of Birmingham’s pub heritage. Inns have stood on these sites since the 17th century, and behind the door there awaits another part to the story – the people of Birmingham and the communities they belonged to.
This tour is led by our very own master, David Glenwright. Having worked with CAMRA (The Campaign For Real Ale) for many years and a historian, David has the knowledge, the passion and the enthusiasm of no other.
