Which is the best Fire Stick?

This depends on your preferences, but in our humble opinion…

  1. The Fire TV Stick 4K is the best overall, offering snazzy 4K resolution streaming alongside all the bells and whistles.
  2. The Fire TV Stick Lite is the best budget-friendly Fire Stick, with Alexa voice control and HD streaming.
  3. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max is the most powerful, compatible with WiFi 6 routers.

The Alexa-enabled Amazon Fire Stick 4K is our all-round favourite of the Fire Stick crew. Designed especially for 4K-enabled TVs, this is your best bet if you’re looking to future-proof your streaming setup. As more video content and TVs are available in higher-resolution formats—think 4K, UHD, HDR 10+ and Dolby Vision—you'll want a streaming device that keeps up.

The middle child of the Fire Stick family, the Fire TV Stick 3rd gen offers the same storage and processor as the 4K Stick, but with HD streaming instead of 4K. Fire TV Stick Lite deals

Fire Stick Lite deals

If you’re looking for the most cost-effective Fire Stick, this is your best bet. The Amazon Fire Stick Lite is Amazon’s cheapest streaming stick, but still comes with plenty of bells and whistles. It’s Alexa voice-enabled, boasts 8GB storage and streams in HD. The main drawback is the lack of TV control buttons, meaning you’ll need to keep your original remote handy if you want to use it without Alexa.

The 4K Max Fire Stick offers all the perks of the 4K model, streaming in 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Vision support and Dolby Atmos sound. The ‘Max’ part? This model is compatible with WiFi 6—making it 40% more powerful with faster app starts and more fluid navigation. If you already own the 4K Fire Stick you might not need the upgrade, but if you’ve got a WiFi 6 router in your home, it’ll be worth the investment.

How does an Amazon Fire Stick work?

For the uninitiated: the Amazon Fire TV Stick works by turning any TV with an HDMI port into a smart TV. This gives you access to thousands of movies and TV shows, including BBC iPlayer, Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, NOW, Disney+ and Apple TV, alongside plenty of other niche and live streaming channels.

If you already have a smart TV, a Fire Stick can make it smarter—providing access to more apps and content, faster and with higher quality. All Amazon Fire Sticks are Alexa-enabled, so you can control your TV (and any other Amazon devices in your home) hands-free.

Fire Stick Black Friday deals 2024

Black Friday 2024 is on its way! While Black Friday is scheduled for 29 November, most stores start their Fire Stick discounts several days before the big day. In 2023, Amazon reduced the Fire Stick by 44% (£20 off) and the Fire Stick 4K by 42% (£15 off).  Retailers like Currys and Very followed suit, competing to offer shoppers the best Fire Stick deal. We’re keeping a close watch on the top Amazon Fire Stick Black Friday deals at Groupon, so be sure to check back during the Cyber Weekend celebrations.

How to get the cheapest Fire Stick deals (on Prime Day and every day)

  • Buy refurbished. Buy a certified refurbished Fire Stick from Amazon to knock around 25% off the RRP. Refurbished models still come with a one-year warranty, so you can buy with peace of mind your streaming stick is as good as new.

  • Select 'No-rush delivery' to bag account credit. If you’re buying directly from Amazon (and can bear waiting an extra day or two), opt for the 'No-rush' option—you'll be rewarded with a discount or account credit to use on future orders. Score!

  • Use Nectar points. Plenty of tech retailers are part of the Sainsbury's Nectar Card programme. If you’re buying your Fire Stick at Argos, redeem your points to knock a few pounds off the price. Every 500 points you've collected on your card will give you £2.50 towards your Black Friday shop.

  • Keep an eye out for bundle deals. Currys always has stellar bundle deals around Black Friday. If you’re in the market for a new TV, you could bag a free Fire Stick with purchase.

  • Wait ‘till Black Friday. We haven’t seen any crazy Fire Stick discounts—yet. If you’ve got one on your wishlist, it might be worth holding out until 29 November to bag any further reductions.
