GROUPON GUIDE TO GLASGOW

Glasgow Places For All Year Round Skiing and Snowboarding

BY: Laura Pearson Smith |17 Dec 2015

Skiing and snowboarding are popular and fun sports, but they don’t have to be just winter activities. There are plenty of places in Glasgow for you to ski and snowboard all year round. From outdoor dry slopes to indoor real snow wonderlands, Glasgow has it all.

Snow Factor Glasgow

Snow Factor Glasgow is Scotland’s only real indoor ski slope. Kids and adults alike love this place and they offer great taster sessions for those new to snow sports. Their fun taster sessions last for two hours and allow you to try both skiing and snowboarding so you can determine which one is right for you. It costs £52 per person and includes rental of all the equipment you will need to take part. If, however, you are a seasoned skier or snowboarder, you can book into one of their courses to expand your skill level (a five week block booking costs from £109 to £129), or you can purchase a 2-hour lift pass (£31) to do your own thing at your leisure. One thing’s for sure though- you will definitely need to wrap up warm.

Glasgow Ski & Snowboard Centre

The Glasgow Ski & Snowboard Centre is in Bellahouston Park and consists of outdoor dry slopes. They offer high quality instruction if you want to book yourself on a course- a six-week course of ski or snowboard lessons for non-members of the centre costs £80 for adults and £70 for children, and you can choose between weekday evenings or weekend morning sessions. However, if you would like some more privacy, you can book a block of four private lessons for £105. On site they have a great café bar in the clubhouse with a viewing area over the slopes, and a great hire and repair store if you need to borrow some equipment for a holiday or weekend away.

Bearsden Ski & Board Club

Another of Glasgow’s dry slope offerings is in Bearsden, a small town north of Glasgow city centre. The Bearsden Ski & Board Club is another dry slope facility. They have a freestyle slope with jumps, tubes and other obstacles as well as a main slope and jump slope. It’s open seven days a week, and they run year round group courses for all ages and abilities- prices are available on enquiry. They also offer club membership for an entry fee of £195-£246 per person then monthly direct debits of £16.25-£20.50 (dependent on whether you are an adult or a child), as well as discounts for couples, families and students. Membership gets you free use of the slopes and hire of equipment as well as fantastic discounts on lessons. If snow sports are a regular pastime of yours, membership is definitely the most cost-effective route to go down.
