Some of the more exotic tastes of South Africa are offered to guests during a lunch (usually £25) or dinner (£30) sitting at Ellesmere Port’s Jabula. Lunches include eight dishes, while the dinner service is made up of ten plates. Starters are served in taster portions with dishes including crocodile, frikkadel (small meat ball in Sheba sauce), goat’s cheese, and creamy mushrooms. Mains are served as separate courses, which include game such as ostrich, kudu and springbok, and more traditional options like chicken with vegetables in a rich sauce and South African casserole with yellow rice and raisins. All options include a dessert course and coffee, and vegetarian and non-game dishes are available.

Positioned on the waterfront at Ellesmere Port, Jabula offers a taste of Africa and pleasant views of the Manchester ship canal. Serving up traditional South African dishes, the kitchen combines authentic dishes with exotic game like springbok and ostrich. The restaurant’s name translates to ‘happy’ or ‘joy’, and its staff strive to give ‘jabula’ to each and every customer they serve. A great spot to enjoy a meal and gaze at the passing ships, Jabula also offers a list of hand-picked South African wines to add a touch of elegance to any meal. Special functions and parties are catered for with the large upstairs lounge area.

Jabula has so far earned an excellent 4.5/5 and a Certificate of Excellence on TripAdvisor, been rated the #1 restaurant in Ellesmere Port and over 2,300 likes on Facebook. Reviewers described the restaurant as unique and very different from more traditional cuisine-serving eateries. Plaudits were also given to the presentation of dishes and the the helpful and knowledgeable staff.
