Your detailed itinerary
DAY 1: LUXOR
Arrival, transfer to the port and settling into the ship's cabins.
Lunch on board
Free afternoon
Dinner and night spent on board
DAY 2: LUXOR - ESNA
Breakfast on board.
Set off to visit the left bank of the Nile, Thebes, where tombs of pharaohs from the 18th to the 20th dynasty can be found.
The Valley of the Kings where you will visit three tombs. From the 18th dynasty onwards and throughout the New Empire, the pharaohs were no longer buried in temples or monuments dedicated to their last journey. Thutmose I and all the pharaohs who followed him decided to be buried on the other side of the Nile, on the West Bank - the land of the afterlife. There were no more colossal monuments, such as the pyramids, or even the Mastabas used during the Old Kingdom, but instead, vaults were dug into the rock and access to them was strictly closed and hidden. Perhaps the main reason for this was to avoid grave robbers.
Lunch on board.
Sail towards Esna.
Dinner and night spent on board.
DAY 3: ESNA - EDFU - KOM OMBO
Breakfast.
Sailing to Edfu.
Lunch on board
Departure for a visit to the splendid Temple of Horus at Edfu, this masterpiece of balance and architectural elegance is one of the best-preserved sites in all of ancient Egypt, a fine example of Ptolemaic art from the Greco-Roman period. Upon arrival at the temple, visitors are greeted by the imposing pylon, adorned with intricate reliefs depicting the king and deities. From there, they proceed to the courtyard, where the walls narrate the various rites performed by the king. Two large black granite falcons, representing the god Horus, are positioned at the entrance to the temple.
Continuation of the cruise to Kom Ombo.
Dinner and overnight on board.
DAY 4: KOM OMBO - ASWAN
Breakfast.
Visit the Kom Ombo Temple in the morning, located a few minutes walk away. Constructed alone on a promontory along the Nile, this is the only temple of its kind in Egypt. It dates from the Greco-Roman era and has two superb sanctuaries, one dedicated to Sobek, the Crocodile God, and the second to Horus, the Falcon God.
It was built in the Ptolemaic period (Ptolemaic dynasty, Greco-Roman period) on the site of a New Kingdom temple (dedicated to Thutmose III, 18th dynasty). It is located on the top of a hill, 15 metres above the Nile. The most surprising feature is that it is consecrated to 2 different gods: the Falcon God Haroeris, "Great Horus", sometimes called "Horus the Elder" and Sobek, the Crocodile God.
Duality is everywhere in this temple: it has two entrances, two parallel corridors, and symmetrically arranged rooms on either side of these corridors, which all lead to the double sanctuary.
Sail to Aswan, the capital of Nubia.
Lunch on board.
Next, visit the Philae Temple.
Visit of the Papyrus Institute.
Dinner and night spent on board.
Optional activity to be booked and paid for on site with our local representative:
- Sound and Light Show at the temple of Philae
DAY 5: LUXOR
Breakfast on board.
Free morning.
Lunch on board.
Coach transfer to Luxor. Dinner and overnight at the hotel
Optional activity to be booked and paid for on site with our local representative:
Excursion to Abu Simbel by coach: Saved from rising water when the Aswan Dam was built, the Abu Simbel temples were built to the glory of Ramses II and his wife Nefertari. They were dismantled and rebuilt 110m higher, in 1965!
The Colossi of Ramses, the largest in Egypt, carved into the cliffs and dedicated to the most famous gods of Pharaonic Egypt: Amon Re, Ramses and Ptah.
Visit the interior and discover the ceilings and walls decorated with reliefs, and the nearby temple of Hathor, its vestibule and sanctuary
DAY 6: LUXOR
Breakfast on board.
Visit Karnak Temple: The most theological temple ever built here. It took over 2000 years, and it pays homage to the same god: Amun. The greatest kings (Seti I, Ramesses II, Thutmose III, Ramesses III) succeeded one another.
Lunch on board.
Visit Luxor Temple, built to glorify the god Amun-Re who celebrated his wedding anniversary with his wife Mut each year. The procession would leave Karnak Temple and walk along the banks of the Nile to Luxor. The construction of the latter dates back to the reign of the two pharaohs, Amenhotep III and Ramesses II.
Return to the ship.
Free time to spend how you like.
Dinner and night spent on board.
DAY 7: LUXOR
Breakfast
Visit the temple at Medinet Habu also known as the Temple of Ramesses III. This temple is like a castle. It is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular funerary temples. Your visit to Egypt would not be complete without visiting the gigantic and monumental site of Ramesses. Ramesses III sought to restore the greatness of Egypt and equally immortalise the name of his famous ancestor. He began to build his jubilee temple as soon as he acceded to the throne, and it has remained one of the largest in the necropolis of Thebes. Visitors are always captivated by this vast ancient fortress built by Ramesses. It is incredible in both size and splendour. It is one of the few that still has beautiful colours.
On the way back, there will be a photo opportunity at the Colossi of Memnon: 2 giant twin statues carved in sandstone, witnesses to the past splendours of the temple of Amenhotep III.
Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel
Optional activity to be booked and paid for on site with our local representative:
Sound and Light Show at the Temple of Karnak
