Coeliac disease is a common and treatable condition in which gluten triggers an immune reaction and chronic inflammation of the small intestine. Research indicates that around 1 in 100 people in the UK are affected by coeliac disease, and around 500,000 people in the UK are yet to be diagnosed.
Your coeliac test will involve a blood test which will examine the level of the transglutaminase antibody (tTG) in your blood which is the most reliable and medically correct method of testing for Coeliac disease. Put simply, the test will show how your body responds to gluten by examining the antibodies your body produces in response to eating gluten. It is important to note that in order for the test to be effective, you will need to keep gluten in your diet in the weeks preceding your check
