Amazon Black Friday versus Prime Day: what’s the difference?

Good question. ‘Amazon Prime Day’ is actually a two day sales event, exclusively for Prime members. It's the best time to bag discounts on Amazon's own products—we bagged over 50% off the Echo Dot and Fire Stick in the last sale.

Amazon has also historically offered major discounts for Black Friday, too; with sales typically lasting for a few weeks. These are usually a mixture of 'Best Deals' that are available throughout Cyber month, and 'Lightning Deals' released throughout the sales period that are only available while stocks last.

Last year, Amazon did not fail to impress in the Black Friday sales. The biggest and best discounts were found in the limited-time Lightning Deals, which are only available while stocks last! These discounts are always available to all shoppers, but Prime account holders got access to the deals 30 minutes earlier than regular shoppers in the 2023 sales event.

Amazon is bound to offer loads of great discounts in the 2023 sales event! Early Black Friday offers started at the beginning of November, and we're expecting to see a rotating selection of deals between now and the end of November. The best discounts will be found in the Deals of the Day section and the Lightning Deals section—remember, these are time sensitive, so you’ll want to snap them up before they disappear!

Amazon device deals

A bit of a no-brainer, but Amazon is bound to deliver discounts on its own devices on Black Friday—we’ve got our fingers crossed for savings on the Echo range and Fire Stick. Year on year, we see Amazon include these in the Lightning and Daily Deals—but you’ll need to move fast to bag these before they sell out!

Electric toothbrush deals

Black Friday is, in our opinion, the best time to buy an electric toothbrush. Every year, we see them appear in the Cyber Weekend sales at more than 60% off—snap one up for yourself, or as a Christmas gift for a dentally-aware pal. We’re expecting Amazon to offer some massive discounts on top brands like Philips and Oral B this year.

Amazon TV deals

Cheap TVs are synonymous with Black Friday, and they often appear in Amazon’s Daily and Lightning Deals. Keep an eye out for discounts on the latest Smart TVs from Samsung, Philips and Sony—this is the perfect chance to upgrade to a OLED or QLED display for less.

Headphones deals

If previous years are anything to go by, we are going to see some serious discounts on headphones in the Amazon Black Friday sales. One of our favourite picks last year were the Sennheiser HD 599 Special Edition headphones, which were available at 50% off!

Beauty products and tools

Last year, we saw major discounts on beauty products and tools in the Amazon Black Friday deals. The Braun IPL Silk Expert Pro 5 was discounted by 57%, and we also saw skincare products with major savings, like Olay’s Regenerist Anti-ageing cream with 60% off. We’re expecting this trend to continue in 2021—keep an eye out for high tech skincare and personal grooming tools from the likes of Braun, L’oreal and The Ordinary.

The best ways to save with Amazon Prime discounts 2022

If you’re looking to get the most out of the Amazon Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, preparation is key! With new deals being added throughout the sales period—and some deals only being available for a few minutes before selling out!—you’ll want to know in advance what to look out for.

1. Sign up for Amazon Prime in advance. This is a no-brainer, but the only way to bag the best discounts is with an Amazon Prime account. You can sign up for a 30 day free trial if you haven’t had an account before—you'll get all of the same access and discounts as a paying member!
2. Or sign up for Prime Student, if you’re eligible. Students can get a free sixth month trial, and after this, it’s only £3.99 per month for all of the perks of a regular Prime account. You’ll even get special student offers, too.
3. Add items to your watchlist before the sales start. You can do this well in advance to streamline your shop when the discounts hit!
4. Turn on notifications so you don’t miss out. If you’ve got the Amazon app, you can turn on notifications for “Your Watched & Wishlisted Deals”, alongside any other notifications you want to look out for. This is a must for bagging those Lightning Deals before they run out!
