Your detailed itinerary

DAY 1: CAIRO

Welcome on arrival and assistance with entry requirements.

Cairo is the capital of Egypt and is also known as Um al-Dunya ("Mother of the World"). In spite of its somewhat traditional appearance, which makes you feel like you've travelled back in time, you quickly become attached to the charm of Africa's biggest city and its inhabitants. The capital is the first step in your trip to Egypt, and your journey discovering its cultural treasures...

Transfer to the hotel.

Settle in for your overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 2: PYRAMIDS, COPTIC CAIRO

Breakfast.

Visit to the Giza Plateau, symbol of Ancient Egypt, with the famous pyramids of:
- Kheops (the largest built around 2650 BC), one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World and the only one to have withstood the test of time. For more than 40 centuries, it was the highest monument built by man at 146 m high.
Khafre: the Pyramid of Khafre looks taller than Kheops, but in reality it is slightly smaller. Because the tilt is greater and it sits on slightly higher ground, there is this impression.
Menkaure: the tomb of King Menkaure. At a height of 66 m, it is much smaller than the other two pyramids.
- The Sphinx: the enigmatic guardian of the tombs and the temple faces the east to protect the tombs from the plunderers. It is 73 metres long and 20 metres high and was carved from a single block of stone.

Then you will visit the Papyrus Institute, where you will see a demonstration of how the substance is made.

Lunch during the excursion.

Visit to Coptic Cairo: the Christian religion was introduced by St Mark around 45 AD and so a Coptic community was established. The Coptic area of Cairo is best known for having a large number of churches in a very small area.
The Saints Sergius and Bacchus Church is one of the oldest Christian churches and was built around the 3rd or 4th century AD. Christians built a church on this very spot because it is believed that the Holy Family took refuge here when it used to be a cave. The Church of Saint Mary or Suspended Church is a very beautiful monument. It is accessed by stairs preceded by a corridor where there are mosaics depicting biblical scenes. This church is nicknamed the Hanging Church because it is built on palm tree trunks which support it like stilts. The interior is lavishly decorated. In the main room, there is a Coptic icon depicting the Virgin Mary with Jesus in her arms. From the outside, there is nothing exceptional about it, but it is the inside that is quite simply incredible.

Optional activity to be booked and paid for on site with our local representative: Sound & Light at the Pyramids

DAY 3: CAIRO - ASWAN

Breakfast.

Transfer to the airport and domestic flight to Aswan in Upper Egypt. You will begin your exploration of the Aswan area with the magnificent Philae Temple dedicated to the goddess Isis located on the island of Agilka, nicknamed the "Pearl of the Nile".
Visit to the unfinished Obelisk, the largest of all known obelisks in the world.

DAY 8: ASWAN

Breakfast.

Free morning. Optional activity to be booked and paid for on site with our local representative:
- Coach trip to Abu Simbel: An exceptional site located 160 miles south of Aswan, this great temple was saved by UNESCO in 1969. The Colossi of Ramesses, the largest in Egypt, are built directly into the cliff. They are dedicated to the most famous gods of Pharaonic Egypt: Amon-Re, Ramesses and Ptah. The Great Temple is devoted to the god Amon-Re, the Temple of Hathor.

Lunch on board.

Late afternoon free.

Dinner and night on board.

DAY 5: KOM OMBO / EDFU / ESNA

Breakfast.

Visit to Kom Ombo Temple in the morning, just a few minutes away on foot: isolated on a promontory along the Nile, this unique temple in Egypt dating from the Greco-Roman era includes two superb sanctuaries, one dedicated to Sobek, the Crocodile God, and the second to Horus, the Falcon God. It was built in the Ptolemaic period on the site of a New Empire temple. The temple is located on the top of a hill, 15 metres above the Nile. Its most amazing feature is Horus the Ancient and Sobek the crocodile god. Duality is everywhere in this temple: it has two entrances, two parallel corridors, and symmetrically arranged rooms on either side of these corridors, which all lead to the double sanctuary. Sculpted columns display shimmering colours on the esplanade in front of the entrance. The small building to the right of the entrance is the Hathor Chapel; it houses several crocodile mummies. Sail to Aswan, the capital of Nubia.

Lunch on board.

Sail to Edfu.

Set off to visit the splendid Temple of Horus in Edfu. This masterpiece of architectural balance and elegance is one of the best preserved sites in all of Ancient Egypt, a great example of Ptolemaic art from the Greco-Roman period. You enter the temple via the great column decorated with large raised images of the king and the gods, and walk towards the courtyard with walls showing the various rituals performed by the king. There are two large black granite falcons representing the god Horus at the entrance of the temple.

The cruise continues towards Luxor

Dinner and night on board.

DAY 6: LUXOR

In the early morning, the boat passes through the lock.

Set off for the Nile cruise and a trip to the Theban Necropolis. The incredible Valley of the Kings where you will visit two tombs belonging to kings and one belonging to a queen. From the Eighteenth Dynasty onwards and throughout the New Kingdom, the pharaohs were no longer buried in temples or monuments devoted to their final journey. Thutmose I and all the pharaohs who followed him decided to be buried on the other side of the Nile, on the west bank: the land of the afterlife. Perhaps the main reason for this was to avoid grave robbers.

Stop at the Colossi of Memnon, the only funerary monuments of Amenophis III. Known for their imposing architecture, these vestiges of an ancient civilisation have been visited by emperors and travellers through the ages. 18 m high and weighing 1300 tonnes, they were named the Colossi of Memnon by the Greeks after the legend of the Oracle of Memnon.

Lunch during the visit

The day will be devoted to touring one of the two world-famous temples dedicated to the god Amun-Ra, the chief of the gods and Head of the Theban Triad: the Temple of Karnak. This is the most theological temple ever built here over a period of 2000 years. The faith of men has paid homage to the same god: Amun. The greatest kings followed one another here. The name "Karnak" means a visit to an alabaster sculpture workshop.

Optional activity to be booked and paid for on site with our local representative:
- Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut: You will be amazed by the huge complex of Deir el-Bahari which includes the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut. This is unique in Egypt as it is partly carved out of the rock and has three terraces connected by central ramps. The unique building is in the hollow of the mountain.

Dinner and night spent on board

DAY 7: LUXOR - CAIRO - AIN SOKHNA

Breakfast on board.

Flight to Cairo and transfer to your hotel in Ain Sokhna.
Check in at the hotel and the rest of the day is free so you can relax at the comfortable hotel facilities on a full board basis. Ain Sokhna is located 75 miles east of Cairo and 35 miles from Suez. It owes its name to the sulphur springs: Ain Sokhna means "hot spring" in English. Set between the sandy hills and the sea, this city has a beautiful sandy beach with calm and clear waters, which makes it the premier seaside resort in Cairo.

Enjoy the dolphins swimming from the Red Sea to the Suez Canal in search of food. Adventurous tourists even swim with them! Divers will enjoy the turquoise waters of the Red Sea, where they can see marine life and coral reefs. Anybody who wants to try their hand at windsurfing can get off to a gentle start thanks to the light breeze.

Lunch

Dinner and night spent at the hotel

DAY 8-10: AIN SOKHNA

Breakfast

Optional activity to be booked and paid for on site with our local representative:
- snorkelling or boat trip.

Dinner and night spent at the hotel
