Groupon's Black Friday savings guide
Your inside scoop on Black Friday 2024 savings
What is Black Friday?
Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving in the United States, which falls on the fourth Thursday of November. The tradition has now spread globally, marking the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season with massive discounts and promotions both in-store and online, making it one of the year’s busiest shopping days.
When does Black Friday start in 2024?
Black Friday officially begins on 29 November 2024, but plenty of brands kick off their Black Friday deals earlier. Amazon’s Black Friday sale often begins as early as October, and this year we’re expecting early offers from top retailers like Samsung, Tesco and Boots.
With saving in mind, we’ll also shortlist Black Friday discounts on items you can share—like board games, broadband and bottles of good wine. For long-term savings, browse our cost-of-living deals to stay on budget year-round.
How long does Black Friday last?
While Black Friday’s biggest offers drop on 29 November, the deals typically last much longer. Most brands continue discounts through Cyber Monday on 2 December. In previous years, Amazon, Argos and Currys extended their Black Friday deals for at least two weeks!
How much of a discount can I get on Black Friday?
In short: a lot! Last year’s Black Friday saw savings up to 60% off at Amazon, 53% off at Gtech and up to 50% off at Currys through Cyber Weekend. The biggest discounts were often on appliances and homewares, and with tighter budgets this year, we expect to see great deals on smaller items, such as personalised gifts, scented candles and food items.
What stores are having Black Friday sales?
Many popular retailers take part in Black Friday, including fashion giants like ASOS, Next, Dunelm and Zara. Major stores like John Lewis, Selfridges and Argos also offer substantial Black Friday deals. For electronics, look for discounts at Sky, Currys and EE. It’s the perfect time to pick up products like air fryers and gaming consoles, as retailers compete to offer the best prices.
When does the Amazon Black Friday sale start?
Amazon holds an additional sale event, Prime Day, but that doesn’t stop it from participating in Black Friday, too. Amazon’s Black Friday sales often begin well before the official date; last year’s deals started in October. With Amazon’s vast selection, expect discounts on essentials like Ninja cookware, cosy blankets and premium hair care products.
Does Apple do Black Friday sales?
Yes, Apple has participated in Black Friday since 2016, but it operates a bit differently. Rather than straightforward discounts, Apple offers free gifts and gift cards with select purchases. If you’re aiming for the lowest price on an iPhone or Mac, be sure to check Amazon, JD Williams and Currys, as they often include Apple products in their Black Friday sales.
Are there any Black Friday food delivery deals?
Absolutely! Look out for exclusive Black Friday deals from Deliveroo, Domino’s and Uber Eats—with discounts on food and free delivery. Last year, we saw 25% off Deliveroo and 50% off Domino’s during Black Friday, so let’s hope this year brings more of the same. Prefer home cooking? Check out the grocery deals at Morrisons, Asda, and Tesco for savings on a delicious home-cooked meal.
Can I use student discount on Black Friday?
Student discount policies vary by brand. While some restrict discounts to full-price items, others may allow them on sale items. If you come across Black Friday codes with terms like “extra 10% off”, it’s likely stackable with sale prices. Keep an eye on Groupon for the latest student-friendly Black Friday discounts!
